It may be New Year's in the States but in Germany and many other countries in Europe it is 'Silvester', the day of the Feast of Pope Sylvester I, a saint who served as Pope of the Catholic Church from 314 to 335. Known as 'Silvesterabend' throughout much of German-speaking Europe, Silvester brings fireworks, balls, galas, and many parties in countries including Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Israel, and more.
